Typhoon Long Distance Race 8/22/2020

The first annual Typhoon “Longer Distance Race” was held yesterday in very light winds.  Thanks from everyone to Joe for running the event and for the fantastic trophy that he created.  It is only fitting that the appropriate name is first on the plaque.   Winds were from non-existent to light for the entire race.  Luckily we had no tides or currents to contend with.  The race course developed utilized the corner buoys of both and A and B mooring areas and twice around.  Duration was approx. two hours.   Leads and places changed numerous times until Mary Beth’s horizon job on the rest of the fleet, with Canaan filling in the slot with the rest of us.   There were minimal conflicts with power boats, which is becoming an increasing hazard and situation…except for Nancy’s and Brett’s interaction with a “family” pontoon boat and Nancy’s loud vocal suggestion that the skipper of the craft contact the Coast Guard for “rules of the road” classes. Luckily no shots across the bow of any boat.   It was also divulged after the race that both Joe and Canaan had secretly scuba dived during the week, after dark, and cleaned their boat bottoms.

So, thanks again to Joe for being race committee and for the plaque!
